Hokkaido Backcountry Club
Asahikawa, Hokkaido
About
Hokkaido Backcountry Club offers cat skiing access to the legendary powder of Japan's northernmost island. Hokkaido receives more snowfall than almost anywhere on earth — cold Siberian air masses pick up moisture over the Sea of Japan and dump it as incredibly light, dry powder known worldwide as 'Japow.' The cat skiing operation accesses terrain in the Daisetsuzan range near Asahikawa, with runs through perfectly spaced silver birch forests and above-treeline bowls. Daily snowfall of 30-60cm is common in peak season. The Japanese hospitality experience — onsen hot springs, fresh sushi, and ryokan inn stays — makes this a bucket-list ski trip.
